Fundación MAPFRE launches the first edition of its photography award “KBr Photo Award”

The award is endowed with prize money of 25,000 euros. The deadline for submitting works is 10 September 2021.

Fundación MAPFRE has set in motion the first edition of the KBr Photo Award, an international award held every two years which is open to photographers who are planning a new project or have just completed one, which may not have been entered for any other similar competition or shown in public.

There is a cash prize of €25,000. In addition to the prize money, Fundación MAPFRE will produce and organize an exhibition in Room 2 of the KBr Center in February 2023 to showcase the work of the winning photographer. Fundación MAPFRE will also publish a catalog in support of the exhibition.

The jury will comprise four well-known members of the world of art: Carles Guerra, artist, art critic and independent curator; Thomas Weski, curator of the Michael Schmidt Archive and exhibition curator; Sarah Meister, executive director of Aperture; and Urs Stahel, writer, curator, independent consultant and curator of MAST – Manifattura di Arti, Sperimentazione e Tecnologia – on Bologna. They will also be joined by Carlos Gollonet, senior photography curator at Fundación MAPFRE.

Nadia Arroyo, Manager of the Culture Area of Fundación MAPFRE, emphasizes the fact that “with this Award, the Foundation aims to reiterate its support for artistic creation, raising the winner’s profile on the national and international scene, and assisting their career with a cash prize, an exhibition of their work, and the corresponding catalog.”
