MAPFRE Middlesea and MSV Life celebrate Health Week

During the past week, MAPFRE Middlesea and MSV Life celebrated MAPFRE Health Week, raising awareness on the importance of both physical and mental wellbeing.
In the past years, various countries have celebrated MAPFRE Health Week, but it is the first time that Malta participated.
On the first day, Dr Pierre Vassallo, managing director of DaVinci Clinic, delivered a talk about the importance of physical screening and check-ups, stating that early diagnoses can heighten the chances of cure. He explained the symptoms of the most common diseases and cancers and what signs need to be treated with urgency. This talk was attended by a number of employees, including MAPFRE Middlesea CEO Felipe Navarro who officially opened the MAPFRE Health week in Malta.
During this week, nine employees were certified in Mental Health First Aid – which is relatively new in Malta. The course, delivered by Richmond Foundation Malta, prepared participants to give the first assistance when faced with someone facing a mental health issue or crisis. Instructors explained what one needs to do when faced with individuals having suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, following a traumatic event , passing through severe psychotic state or having effects from alcohol or drug use. This course was delivered by Dragan Donkov and Daniela Calleja Bitar.
In another talk, Richmond Foundation explained the importance of positive thinking and being mindful and how to handle difficult situations.
At the end of the week, management offered all the staff a complimentary healthy lunch. The management also provides incentives for employees to care for their mental and physical wellbeing, including subsidies on gym memberships and free and confidential counselling at Richmond Foundation.
In the upcoming weeks, the Group will also be holding a blood drive at the Head Offices in Floriana.
