Middlesea kicks off Employee Volunteering program

Middlesea Insurance has launched a new philanthropic initiative for its employees, an Employee Volunteering Program. Through this program, employees are given the opportunity to do voluntary work during working hours. The first voluntary event which was organised was a baking event in collaboration with the Equal Partners Foundation, a non-profit organisation providing individualised support programmes to over 250 children and adults with disabilities and/or learning difficulties and their families.

Seven employees spent an afternoon with a group of children with learning disabilities, baking figolli. The finished products were then taken to Middle Sea House where employees had the opportunity to sample the delicacies, and prizes were given to all participants.

One of the employees that attended the event described it as a “very nice experience, with beautiful people.” Another added, “Once they got the hang of it, there was no stopping them!”  Louise Pisani, the President of the Foundation said that such events, “apart from being great fun, help the children to feel included and productive. They do wonders for their self-esteem.”

Chris Meli, Chief Officer Human Resources at Middlesea Insurance stated: “Our employees are very excited with this employee volunteering project which will be allowing them to make a positive impact to our community. Middlesea has a long tradition of being a caring, socially responsible company. Through this program, we are taking a novel approach to social responsibility, providing not just financial support but also man power. This will allow our employees to gain a deeper and more intimate understanding of different social realities and ultimately it is an investment in our employees, in our community and in our company.”
