The Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Dr Alfred Sant, last Wednesday, paid a visit to the offices of Middlesea Group in Floriana, as the Group’s holding company, Middlesea Insurance p.l.c. is commemorating its 25th Anniversary.

Middlesea Group Chairman and CEO, Mr Mario C. Grech welcomed Dr Sant who was accompanied by the Deputy Leaders, the Hon. Dr Charles Mangion and Dr Michael Falzon.

Addressing the Middlesea Group’s Management and Staff, Mr Grech described the Company’s 25th anniversary as an important event.  Mr Grech highlighted the factors which contributed to the Company’s success and said that the Company’s Board of Directors had the business sense to set up the Mediterranean Insurance Training Centre in 1981, thus giving due importance to the education, training and continuous development of the human resource.

Additionally, Middlesea Insurance, from its establishment in 1981, drew up a strategy which ensured its position as the leading Maltese insurance company and sought growth from overseas markets.  The Board of Directors, Management and Staff, had always embraced change and grasped opportunities that presented themselves from such change.  Mr Grech was certain that these three fundamentals will continue to be valid for the future.

Dr Sant, addressing those present, extended his thanks to Mr Grech and to the Company’s Board of Directors for their invitation on the occasion of the Company’s 25th anniversary.  Dr Sant pointed out that he had played a role, which he described as “marginal” in the setting up of Middlesea Insurance p.l.c. in 1981.  The Government then was successful in encouraging entrepreneurs to invest in the Company.  The results were impressive and were due, to a large extent, to its leadership and quality of human resources.  Middlesea had a wealth of expertise in insurance and related fields.  “The Company’s emphasis on human resource development and its strategy with the aim of diversifying and of being viable and profitable whilst entering foreign markets, were truly commendable”, Dr Sant said.

Dr Sant augured the Company’s achievements will serve as a platform for years to come. “A company like Middlesea, which excels in its service and performance, is a showcase for Malta,” Dr Sant added.

Mr Grech then presented Dr Sant with a memento to mark the occasion.
